My friends specially Ruchita has been demanding this recipe from ages. I am new to blogging but they usually ask me on the phone or whenever we meet.Thepla is easiest recipe you can have in your everyday cooking."Methi (fenugreek Leaves) thepla" is very common and famous,but you can use other vegetables like Spinach, Bottle gourd, grated Cabbage and fruit like Banana. Thepla is very good option for kids' lunch. You can have thepla with jam, yogurt, pickle(Chhunda) and any your choice of vegetable, but thepla goes best with Potato curry. It is one of the rarest item which can be stored for several days (cool environment). It is one of the most common food item that can be taken with you whenever you are travelling, specially abroad if you have problems with eating non veg food.
Today I am posting most famous and common "Methi thepla".
Samagri (Ingredients)
- 2 Cups Wheat flour
- 1 Cup Methi leaves loosely packed (Fenugreek leaves)
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 3 tsp Oil
- Salt to taste
- Wash methi leaves, chop them finely. then sprinkle 1/2 tsp salt and leave it for 15 minutes.
- Squeeze methi and release its water.
- Add methi leaves,turmeric,chilli powder,coriander powder,oil and salt into the flour.
- Knead soft dough and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
- Make equal sized balls and roll to thin chapatis.
- Heat tava (griddle) with oil and roast it on a medium flame.
- Do it on both side until golden brown.
- Serve with Potato curry,Chhunda and curd combination.
Notes-
- You can Skip first 2 procedure. Wash methi leaves chop them and add to the flour.
- You can add one small size of Banana and 1/4 cup of dahi (curd) while kneading dough.If you want to store thepla for longer time.
- You can use kasoori methi if you do not have fresh methi.
- I usually have thepla with masala tea in the morning and evening.
- FYI Thepla is often compared to methi parathas but actually thepla is more healthier and lighter than parathas.
