Three Bean Salad

Three Bean Salad is made with Kidney Beans, Garbanzo Beans and Butter Beans. Three Bean Salad is high-Protein and high-fiber dish. Salad of this type have commonly been used since the 19th century for picnics and outgoing, as they can be preserved with little refrigeration.

I have adapted this recipe from Tarla Dalal's Italian Cook book. Dressing of this salad makes it more interesting. The ketchup used in the dressing lends a sweet and concentrated
tomato flavour, which blends beautifully in the salad..

1/4 Cup of Kidney Beans
1/4 Cup of Chick Peas
1/4 Cup of Butter beans/ Lima Beans
1/2 Cup of Spring Onion Chopped
1/4 Cup of Tomato diced
1/4 Cup of Cheese Cube diced
1 Small head of Iceberg Lettuce torn into pieces

1/8 Cup of Tomato ketchup
2 Tablespoon of Olive oil
1 Teaspoon Oregano
Salt to taste


  • Combine all the ingredients excepts the dressing.
  • Toss well. Chill for 2 to 3 hours.

  • Just before serving,toss dressing and serve with warm crusty bread.
